About eBooks -- How to find eBooks -- Create an account -- Reading eBooks
Reading netLibrary eBooks
When you have found an eBook that you want, either by searching for it in the
library's online catalog or by searching for it on the netLibrary web site,
you will be looking at a summary record for the
eBook.
Under the "Viewing Options" menu bar, there will be two options: View this eBook
and Checkout for __ days. Viewing an eBook lets you use it for
15 minutes; checking out an eBook ensures that no one else can check it out
until you return it.
A few things to note:
- eBooks can only be used by one person at a time. eBooks have been
designed to function much like paper books. If a library wants multiple
people to be able to use an eBook at the same time, the library must purchase
multiple copies of the eBook.
- The 8,000+ titles in our library's eBook collection that come from the
MLNC consortium (see About netLibrary eBooks for
more information) are only available for a 4-hour checkout period. eBooks
purchased directly by our library may be checked out for a longer period.
- Many eBooks require Adobe's Acrobat Reader in order to be read. You
will want to
upgrade your copy of Acrobat Reader to the most current version
to ensure the best results.
- eBooks don't replace paper books. Unless you enjoy reading
from your computer screen for hours, you probably won't read an entire eBook.
While eBooks offer certain conveniences -- immediate access to book content,
full-text keyword searching capability, a quick way to check a reference online --
they are not designed to replace the portability, visual clarity, and
durability of paper books.
