Baptist World Alliance to Send Aid to Myanmar
Anyone who has been watching the news is probably aware that a cyclone recently struck the country of Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. Thousands have been killed and thousands more are still missing. Much of the population is suffering from a shortage of food and clean drinking water.
Friends and family of Northern Seminary have also been affected. Hebrew professor May May Latt has friends and family in Myanmar. She reported to the seminary shortly after the news,
"I’ve heard from my niece, who is here. She got in touch with her parents last night. They say that my house just lost its roof, which is a problem for almost every house right now. No one has died in my family. My niece’s house got damaged more than mine, but her family is also fine."
May May added, "I’ve been trying to dial my parents, but still my calls still haven’t gone through yet."
Many phone lines are down throughout the country. In addition to May May, Northern Seminary also has four alumni native to Myanmar. Dr. Saw Hsa Mu Htaw, Dr. Chit Maung and Dr. Saw Than Win are at Karen Baptist Theological Seminary in Insein. Ms. Thramu R. Maung is at the Myanmar Baptist Convention in Yangon.
Baptist World Aid, the relief department of Baptist World Alliance, has pledged support for those in Myanmar. Anyone interested in donating to the relieve effort can go to
