Background

Rev. Dr. Ricky Freeman is a veteran pastor and teacher.

With more than 22 years in local church ministry and teaching experience in several venues, Dr. Freeman came to Northern in 2004 as an adjunct professor of Supervised Ministry. Dr. Freeman already had a great familiarity with Northern Seminary, having completed his D. Min. degree in church leadership in 2002. He was ordained to pastoral ministry by the late Dr. Luke Mingo of the Morning Star Baptist Church (National Baptist) in Chicago where he was then appointed Assistant Pastor. In 1984, he became Pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Joliet, Illinois and served there for over eleven years. In 1995, he was elected Senior Pastor of Saint John Church-Baptist (National Baptist and American Baptist) in Chicago, where he continues to serve.


Dr. Freeman has served in the following professional capacities:


Chairperson - Mission Partnership Committee, American Baptist Church/Metro Chicago


Field Education Supervisor, Northern Baptist Theological Seminary


Treasurer, Baptist General State Convention of Illinois, Inc.


Field Education Supervisor, Moody Bible Institute, Chicago


Finance Committee member, American Baptist Churches/Metro Chicago


Chair, Economic Development Taskforce, (Joliet Area Congregation-based Organized Body--J.A.C.O.B).


Moderator, Lebanon Baptist District Association


As Assistant Professor of Practical Theology, Dr. Freeman continues his commitment to integrating theological reflection on the practice of ministry with a Christ-centered spiritual life. His teaching and ministry specialties are in the areas of spiritual formation, pastoral care, grief ministry, church administration, leadership development and supervision of ministry students.


Dr. Freeman is married to Zenodie Carmen Gilot, a native of Haiti. They have four children: Regine Carmen, Brendan Alexander, Christophe Davide and Chantal Gabrielle
