Northern's Community Grocery Shelf, an available food pantry for students in times of need, was able to be restocked again due to the generous support of the many donations made. The food drive, which ran for several weeks prior to the holidays collected various shelf-stable items such as soups, pastas, canned fruits and vegetables. A generous donation was also made by the Westmont Food Pantry.
Amanda Svejda and Jean Sharp, the two students responsible for organizing the drive were surprised to see the variety of donations made, including many gluten-free items. "It was really touching to witness people giving not just the bare minimum, but out of the abundance of what they had, and knowing the intent behind it." says Sharp.
The Community Grocery Shelf welcomes donations from local churches, faculty, staff and students. Contact the Director of Student Services to access this resource or to make donations.
