New Testament - Emphasis

Do you love to explore the letters of the apostles, delight in digging for treasure in the Gospels and revel in amazement as you study the first texts of the Christian Church?

If so, and you would like the opportunity to spend additional time studying these texts, then a New Testament emphasis at Northern Seminary may be the right option for you.

Northern has developed specialized courses designed to fit the specific interests and needs of students who are focused on enriching their Scriptural knowledge through study of subjects such as the Gospels, New Testament epistles or worship in the early church.

Individuals pursuing this emphasis will be equipped for ministry leadership that is:

Biblical. [Grounded in Scripture]

Combined with a comprehensive academic degree program that provides a solid foundation in the study of Scripture, church history, theology and ethics, specialized New Testament courses challenge individuals to dig deeper into the Bible by studying texts such as Matthew, Mark and Luke or the letters of Paul, as well as broader topics such as “New Testament Theology”.

Missional. [Sharing Christ in Context]

Northern Seminary provides students with unique ways to learn how to share Christ in context. Through a variety of experiential and classroom learning experiences, students are challenged to apply knowledge to the contemporary context and are equipped for contextually-relevant ministry leadership.

Personal. [Holistic, Relational Ministry]

Individuals pursuing the New Testament emphasis benefit from Northern’s commitment to personal, holistic ministry training. From the availability of professors to engage in discussion and guide students in discerning their call, to the opportunity to connect with other students on the same path, individuals experience a community that partners with them in their journey toward effective ministry leadership.

  • Anyone interested in deepening his or her knowledge of the Bible and are especially interested in the New Testament texts
  • Individuals who want to be equipped for ministry leadership that is well-grounded in and framed by focused New Testament study
  • Pastors or church leaders who want to gain specialized skill for ministry with a focus on or interest in the New Testament

What are the requirements of the New Testament Emphasis?

The New Testament emphasis can be acquired by completing a combination of any five New Testament electives as part of any of the following programs:

  • Master of Divinity
  • Master’s Specialization

Examples of New Testament Electives include:

  • Matthew, Mark and Luke
  • Paul and His Letters
  • Parables of Jesus
  • Worship in the Early Church
  • Romans
