Old Testament - Emphasis

Whether you get swept into the epic history of Israel, are encouraged by the intense emotion of the Psalms, or are moved by the powerful words of the prophets, you may want to consider pursuing an Old Testament Emphasis at Northern Seminary.  

Northern has developed specialized courses designed to fit the specific interests and needs of students who are focused on enriching their Scriptural knowledge through study of such subjects as The Pentateuch, The Former Prophets and Old Testament Theology.

Individuals pursuing this emphasis will be equipped for ministry leadership that is:

Biblical. [Grounded in Scripture]

Combined with a comprehensive academic degree program that provides a solid foundation in the study of Scripture, church history, theology and ethics, the Old Testament Emphasis challenges individuals to dig deeper into the Bible with courses focused on studying texts such as the Psalms, Isaiah and broader courses covering topics such as the wisdom literature of the Old Testament.  

Missional. [Sharing Christ in Context]

Northern Seminary provides students with unique ways to learn how to share Christ in context. Through a variety of experiential and classroom learning experiences, students are challenged to apply knowledge to the contemporary context and are equipped for contextually-relevant ministry leadership.

Personal. [Holistic, Relational Ministry]

Individuals pursuing the Old Testament Emphasis benefit from Northern’s commitment to personal, holistic ministry training. What are the requirements of the Old Testament Emphasis?

The Old Testament Emphasis can be acquired by completing a combination of any five Old Testament electives as part of any of the following programs:

  • Master of Divinity
  • Master’s Specialization

Examples of Old Testament Electives include:

  • The Pentateuch
  • Former Prophets
  • Psalms
  • Jeremiah
  • The book of Daniel
