Institutional Technology
Computer Lab
Students may use the computers available in the upper level of Kern Hall Commons or in the Student Services Center, for word processing and internet access.
Students using the lab will need to provide their own USB flash drive. Northern uses a filtering system that is minimally intrusive. Anyone caught viewing or distributing inappropriate material in the computer lab will have their lab privileges revoked and lose their deposit.
Each student receives 100 printouts/copies each regular term for the computer lab or the library. Copies over 100 are billed at 5 cents. In Summer Term, all copies are billed at 5 cents each.
Kern Hall Commons
Kern Commons is located on the second floor of Kern Hall, and has free wi-fi service. Vending machines for snacks, hot coffee, cappuccino, tea and hot chocolate are available, as well as a refrigerator and microwave. Tables and chairs are provided for students to use between or after classes. Bulletin boards announcing upcoming events and job opportunities are also located in the classroom hallways. Each student also has a campus mailbox located in the file cabinet outside Room 207.
Student Activity Center
Located on the first floor of Lindner Tower, this multi-purpose facility includes a game room with table tennis, foosball, pool table, air hockey, TV room, a prayer room and catering kitchen. A refundable $20 key card may be issued to Northern students over 21 years of age. Keycard applications are available from Roni Okubo. The cost of using the SAC is included in the Student Activity Fee charged each quarter at registration.
Residential Floor Leaders
Each floor of the student apartments has a Residential Floor Leader (RFL) who resides in the building and is committed to building community at Northern Seminary. RFLs assist in welcoming new residents, coordinating floor and campus activities, assisting in emergency evacuations, and serving as a resource to residents. They also plan special events for the entire seminary body.
Community Grocery Shelf (Food Pantry)
Northern's Community Grocery Shelf is available to students in times of need. Local churches, organizations, faculty, staff and students can donate food items to the pantry. Contact the Director of Student Services to access this resource or to make donations.
