Home Sweet Hotel

The storm system that almost diverted our homebound flight yesterday was also responsible for knocking out power to our house. I arrived home with a suitcase full of dirty clothes, Maasai dirt still clinging to my shoes, and a fatigue-muddled mind. I looked around the house — no A/C, no lights, no fans, no fridge — and collected my wife and fled to a hotel, heartlessly leaving the cats and the kids to fend for themselves. (Should someone think that I am being a poor parent, the kids are 22 and 19. Should someone think that I am being a poor cat owner, I suspect that the cats would agree.) A little over 24 hours later, our power is back on, and I am taking the first step toward regaining normalcy: laundry. The cats are still undecided on whether or not to forgive me.
