Missional Learning Commons

There are many changes and happenings we can count on with the coming of autumn each year. Along with cooler weather and a new school year, another milestone of the season at Northern is the annual Missional Learning Commons, commencing on October 26-27, 2012. This dynamic conference gathers missional leaders and practitioners from all over the Midwest to share stories and ideas to equip them to fully live into the Gospel of Jesus in their respective communities.

The two-day gathering will begin Friday evening with a presentation and book discussion by J.R. Woodward, author of Creating a Missional Culture. Woodward is a gifted author with significant experience in planting and consulting new church communities across the country. This opening session will explore how different approaches to leadership shape and effect the culture of communities we operate in.

Ideas from J.R.’s session will frame the context for Saturday’s content, in which our own David Fitch will moderate discussions about various leadership styles and models. The overarching topics will include leading through mutual submission, dispersing leadership equally among a team, and leading communities while working bi-vocationally. Each of these conversations will include teaching, testimonials, and group discussion time with room for sharing from all participants.

Beyond great learning, the Commons also provides incredible opportunities for community-building, networking, and encouragement among the leaders. Ample space is provided throughout sessions for participants to connect and learn from each other’s stories and experiences. This concept is a fundamental principle for the entire event.

Northern Seminary is honored to host this gathering of leaders for the third year in a row, and we eagerly anticipate the ways in which we’ll get to see God move throughout the weekend and beyond. Spots are still available for registration, and we hope you will be able to join us! You can also listen to audio recordings of past Missional Learning Commons sessions.
