Welcome to this blog
By: Northern Seminary
“Experiencing Africa and the Gospel” is the title of both this blog and a two-week travel course being offered by Northern Seminary from June 19 – July 1 this summer. Our class is made up of sixteen students, eight guests, and our professor, Dr. Wayne “Coach” Gordon, the founding pastor of Lawndale Community Church and an affiliate professor of Urban Ministry at Northern Seminary. As a “mini community” representing Northern Seminary, we will spend two weeks travelling in Ethiopia and Kenya experiencing first-hand how God is at work in Africa.
I am writing this blog as someone who knows Northern Seminary as a staff member (I am the director of the Brimson Grow Library), as a professor (I am an assistant professor of bibliography), as an administrator (I am the Dean of Academic Administration), and as a student (I am taking classes in the Master of Divinity program). My intention, though, is that this blog will not record just my experiences during the two weeks of this class. I plan to invite other students to contribute their thoughts, and I hope to also share with you some of the teaching that we will receive from African pastors, church leaders, and community leaders during our time in Ethiopia and Kenya.
Thank you for taking the time to find this blog and read it. I covet your prayers for our class as we travel in the next two weeks that we will be kept safe, in good health and good spirits, and especially that our hearts and minds will be open to learning from Africa, our teacher.
