Missionary Pastors

By: William D. Shiell

Last week, I had the chance to meet over 30 alumni for lunch in Green Lake, Wisconsin. They were attending the American Baptist World Missions Conference.

The Goods

Among these were newly-commissioned missionaries and alumni Jon and Amanda Good. For 18 years, Jon and Amanda have been serving in pastoral ministry. On a sabbatical to Italy, God began to awaken this family to a new calling to missions service in Europe. As Jon told me, he felt that Northern had already trained him to be a “missionary pastor.” He was already living out that missional calling in the communities where he served. He and Amanda along with their four children shared this same calling to Europe together. Each one had separate experiences, but they came together to make the decision.

Jon and Amanda are raising awareness and support this year and will be traveling to Hungary next year. Jon will be teaching in the Baptist seminary in Budapest, and Amanda will be teaching school.

The Goods inspired me with their obedience. With their oldest daughter in high school, and their youngest in elementary school, this is a huge change for them. But that’s part of the adventure of faith. God’s call continues to equip you for changes along the Way of service. Pray for and support these Northern alumni and many more who are serving around the world.
