Multiethnic Church Leadership

Northern Seminary presents a new program in Multiethnic Church Leadership beginning June 24–27, 2019, in Charlotte, NC.

The program is in collaboration with Dr. Derwin Gray, pastor of Transformation Church in Charlotte, NC, and author of several books including The High-Definition Leader: Building Multiethnic Churches in a Multiethnic World.

The program will also feature guests, including:

  • Mark DeYmaz
  • Efrem Smith
  • Bryan Loritts

Available as a Master’s degree or certificate, the Multiethnic Church Leadership program will give students the theological resources and vision to build flourishing gospel-centered, mission-shaped, local multiethnic churches.

Open to Students Across the Country
The program involves 4 one-week intensive courses each summer in Charlotte, NC. All other classes are delivered to students across the country via Northern Seminary’s state-of-the-art interactive live-streaming technology called “Northern Live.” With Northern’s smart classroom technology, you can interact with the professors and other students no matter where you live. Now you can earn a certificate or degree without leaving your community and ministry context.

Certificate (for Master’s credit or not-for-credit)
Students can earn a certificate by taking five classes in Multiethnic Church Leadership:

  • Theological Vision for Multiethnic Church
  • Understanding a Racialized Society
  • Building a Multiethnic Church
  • Preaching for Building a Multiethnic Church
  • Discipleship and Leadership Development

Master of Arts with Specialization in Multiethnic Church Leadership
Students will take our Christian Heritage core of OT, NT, Theology, Culture, and Church History (27 quarter hours), and the remainder of the degree comprises the following courses (27 quarter hours):

  • Theological Vision for Multiethnic Church
  • Understanding a Racialized Society
  • Building a Multiethnic Church
  • Preaching for Building a Multiethnic Church
  • Discipleship and Leadership Development
  • Theology Elective 1
  • Theology Elective 2
  • Thesis (6 credits)

The program is rooted in biblical, historical, and theological studies, including a theological vision for multiethnic churches. Three courses are practical, skills-based courses: Building a Multiethnic Church, Preaching for Building a Multiethnic Church, Discipleship and Leadership Development.

The coursework for the MA can be completed in four years with the cohort sequence of one class per quarter. Students may complete earlier as live-streaming classes are available. The Thesis may be completed either in the final year of courses or in the following year.

DMin with Specialization in Multiethnic Church Leadership
Students will take Northern’s three core DMin classes (Becoming Doctors of the Church, Biblical and Theological Method, and Thesis Design), along with four courses in Multiethnic Church Leadership.

Tuition
The cost of the program is substantially lower than most seminary degrees and is paid as monthly installments over the course of your program. In addition, Master’s students who apply for Northern financial aid may qualify for up to a 20% scholarship. 

Certificate $3,750 ($250 per credit)
Certificate with Master’s Credit $7,530 ($502 per credit)
Master of Arts $25,500 *scholarships available up to 20%
Master of Arts via Northern Live $27,500 *scholarships available up to 20%
Doctor of Ministry $19,900

Students are encouraged to set up monthly payment plans over 48 months.
