Living out Missional Faith: Ben Waterman

Northern’s Director of Development Ben Waterman spends much of his work day celebrating what God is doing in the lives of past, present and future students. Waterman connects current and potential partners in the school’s academic ministry through various outreaches including the Scholarship Fund, the Northern Fund, the Presidential Impact Society, which focuses on major gifts, and the Amy Lee Stockton Legacy Society, which focuses on planned gifts to the school as part of a donor’s estate. He also connects with the school’s alumni community through mailings, newsletters, social media and work on the school’s website.

Waterman, a Taylor University grad with a degree in Business Communications, came to Northern after working in the financial industry and as a program manager for a non-profit. He and his wife are expecting their first child this spring.

“Northern is here to train leaders for the church,” Waterman noted. “The leaders we’re targeting include those called to be pastors, but also include those leading other ministries in a church or in their community. We believe every Christian is in a place of influence in their lives. Every follower of Jesus is called to grow, be challenged and learn about who God is.” God has used Northern’s faculty, staff and students to spur growth and service in generations of leaders.

“One alum told me he appreciated the fact that Northern isn’t just a place for professional Christians,” Waterman said. “It’s a place for all Christians.”
