Northern Seminary Announces New On-Demand Educational Platform
Northern Seminary is excited to announce Seminary Now (www.seminarynow.com), a forthcoming subscription-based learning platform offering on-demand video courses to educate and enrich the ministry of pastors and lay church leaders. The initiative is a collaborative effort of like-minded seminaries and organizations, including InterVarsity Press, Missio Alliance, the Christian Community Development Association, the Apprentice Institute, the Transforming Center, the BH Carroll Institute, and more.
“Our vision for Seminary Now began after church and denominational leaders expressed the need for on-demand training for pastors and church leaders unable to attend seminary,” says William Shiell, president of Northern Seminary. “The Seminary Now platform brings together faculty from across institutions who share our commitments to the church
and to theological education in a unique on-demand format at an affordable price.”
Jason Gile, the executive director of Seminary Now, added, “On-demand video courses present a unique opportunity for seminaries, publishers, and other organizations to collaborate in the shared mission to equip Christian leaders. By providing accessible and relevant theological teaching to Christians across the world, we believe Seminary Now has the potential for great impact on the church.”
InterVarsity Press (IVP) will be the premier publishing partner for the platform. President Shiell said, “We value IVP’s partnership because of our mutual commitment to women in leadership, multiethnic ministries, academic training, and biblical justice.” Jeff Crosby, IVP’s publisher, commented, “Christian higher education is changing at a dizzying speed, and the manner in which our content is utilized in those spaces is changing as well. I’m grateful for the chance to partner with the team at Seminary Now as together and in concert with other like-minded organizations we create and deliver thoughtful Christian content to pastors, students and others who want to deepen their understanding of theology, ecclesiology, biblical studies, social justice, spiritual formation and many other disciplines.”
Seminary Now will offer courses and certificates in the areas of Old and New Testament, Theology, Church & Mission, Ministry, and Justice and Reconciliation. The platform features leading teachers and thinkers, including Northern Seminary professors Scot McKnight, David Fitch, Greg Boyd, Wayne Gordon, and Derwin Gray, as well as alumna Tara Beth Leach. IVP authors include Roger Olson, James Bryan Smith, Brenda Salter McNeil, Michael Bird, John Walton, Tremper Longman III, Ruth Haley Barton, Sandra Van Opstal, James Choung, Dominique Gilliard, Mary Hulst, Jonathan Brooks, Matthew Stanford, Lucy Peppiatt, and Sarah Shin.
The Seminary Now platform will launch in 2020.
