November Newsletter

Dear Friends,

Northern Seminary provides open, innovative spaces that strengthen pastoral leaders and cultivate gospel seeds. We deliver more than academic degrees by providing real-time, contextual training to strengthen hearts and connect people. This kind of community helps pastors lead the church and engage the world.

Over the last 30 days, Northern has hosted conferences that have touched over 500 people. These virtual and in-person gatherings have shared resources and trained people to learn from global experts, instill confidence, and share genuinely.

We are so grateful for the overwhelming success of our Tov for Women event on October 22nd! It was a wonderful gift gather women and men from across the US and around the world. Special thanks to those who stayed up late to join us at 1:00am from Manila, Philippines! If you missed it or want to enjoy it again, recorded sessions are included below.

Our deepest gratitude goes toward Dr. Scot McKnight, Laura Barringer, Helen Lee, and Shamara Shantal for their keynote sessions. What a gift of wisdom on reshaping toxic cultures into thriving communities for God’s glory! Thank you also to our afternoon panelists Becky Castle Miller, Sharon Green Hardman, and Juni Felix for their conversation on trauma in the church (this special in-person session was recorded and will be available for download soon).

Who cancelled the Apostle Paul?
Lessons from the first Christian influencer on how to lead when you are hated.

Dr. NIJAY K. GUPTA, as featured in Christianity Today

Next to Jesus, of course, the apostle Paul is the most well-known figure of the Christian faith. Intrepid apostle, church planter, theologian, pastor, writer. Paul is our hero. He models the faith for us.

But a careful reading of his letters demonstrates that he had many enemies both inside and outside the church, and it appears the Christians of his time found him controversial. Sectors of the Christianity of his time passionately challenged and even despised Paul and his ministry. For example, when Paul the prisoner writes to the Philippians, he informs them that some believers around him were talking up Christ, as it were, just to get Paul in more hot water (Phil. 1:15–17). They wanted to ruin his ministry; they wanted to ruin him.

highlights from the grow center

The Grow Center hosted its annual Global Church Forum this past month. With speakers from around the world offering streamed sessions over the course of 24 hours, the GCF reached over 250 participants with an international wealth of resources. From inspiring testimonies to innovative methodologies, the GCF challenged narrower views of how we define and embody the Church.
