Northern Graduates 58 Pastoral Leaders

This month, 58 students graduated from Northern Seminary, ready to lead the church and engage the world. Over the last two years, we’ve graduated 120 students, the most in any two-year period at Northern in over 60 years. We praise the Lord for their willingness to say, “Here am I, send me.” These graduates represent 12 different Christian denominations. The class of 2022 already serve in states from New Hampshire to California, and 2 international countries. 86% of our students are placed in a ministry position within one year of their graduation. Northern Provost Dr. Lynn Cohick and Professor Dr. Nijay Gupta Appointed to the New Living Translation Bible Translation Committee

Tyndale House Publishers has appointed Dr. Lynn Cohick and Dr. Nijay Gupta to the Bible Translation Committee for the Holy Bible, New Living Translation.

Lynn Cohick, PhD, is the Provost of Northern Seminary and Professor of New Testament. She has written The Letter to the Ephesians (New International Commentary on the New Testament) and co-authored with Amy Brown Hughes Christian Women in the Patristic World.

Nijay K. Gupta, PhD, is Professor of New Testament at Northern Seminary. His recent books include Paul and the Language of Faith and A Beginner’s Guide to New Testament Studies. He has published commentaries on Colossians, 1-2 Thessalonians, Philippians, and Galatians (forthcoming), and has served as chief editor of Bulletin for Biblical Research and Journal for the Study of Paul and His Letters.

Northern Stories: Sheva Stephens

Cincinnati native Sheva Stephens came to Northern Seminary after completing her master’s in accounting. She had plans for her life, but God had His. Since childhood, she’d had a gift for speaking to large groups about the Word of God. “The men didn’t know what to do with me,” she explains. “Women could teach kids or work in the kitchen.” She ended up doing the former quite frequently for the younger children at her church. Her heart for service grew by serving alongside her grandparents in the hospitality ministry. Like many young adults, Sheva eventually took a hiatus from the church as she figured her faith out for herself. “There was a hole there for me. Things weren’t bridging well in the way Christ was being presented. I didn’t have the words back then. Something just wasn’t right, and I didn’t have teachers that could help it make sense.” She began seeking truth in various churches and religions, only to be led back to Jesus. She needed to be able to relate to Him, and she found a teaching that could provide that through Northern Seminary…
