President’s November Newsletter
Dear Northern Friends,
Seminarians and seminaries can’t survive alone. We were created for partnership and friendship. This month, we are thankful for the bonds that are formed among our students and the new partnerships that Northern Seminary is developing. Below, you’ll read about attorney Kellye Fabian (Pictured Above). She found a community of pastors to support one another through the challenges of church ministry. You’ll also learn about two new partnerships– one with the BGAV, a network of over 1,300 churches headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, and another with InterVarsity Press located in Downers Grove, Illinois. Together, we are leading the church and engaging the world.
ATTORNEY TRAINS AT NORTHERN TO GROW IN HER CALLING
When attorney Kellye Fabian accepted a call to Willow Creek to serve on their staff, she also discovered another need. She wanted to learn more about her Christian faith with others on the journey.
“You can’t do the Christian life alone,” and she thought “Why?” Kellye explains, “It seemed to me that life and church life felt fairly individualized.” You practiced your faith by doing a checklist of things as an individual. Since delving deeper into the theology of her faith, “My doctrine is driving my practice.”
NORTHERN BECOMES ONLINE SEMINARY PARTNER FOR BGAV
As the BGAV’s seminary partner for distance education, Northern will deliver accessible theological education to students in Virginia via interactive live-streaming classes and local intensive gatherings. Students can complete degrees while still serving their local context or deployed overseas.
Northern’s unique interactive live-streaming technology (Northern Live) allows students to engage in a vibrant classroom experience and interact with Northern’s premier faculty and classroom peers in real time, no matter where they live. Students will be able to take a one-week summer intensive class each year in Virginia, as well as gather for events each Fall and Spring.
NORTHERN AND IVP DEVELOP SEMINARY NOW
Northern Seminary is excited to announce Seminary Now (www.seminarynow.com), a forthcoming subscription-based learning platform offering on-demand video courses to educate and enrich the ministry of pastors and lay church leaders. The initiative is a collaborative effort of like-minded seminaries and organizations, including InterVarsity Press, Missio Alliance, the Christian Community Development Association, the Apprentice Institute, the Transforming Center, the BH Carroll Institute, and more.
“Our vision for Seminary Now began after church and denominational leaders expressed the need for on-demand training for pastors and church leaders unable to attend seminary,” says William Shiell, president of Northern Seminary. “The Seminary Now platform brings together faculty from across institutions who share our commitments to the church
and to theological education in a unique on-demand format at an affordable price.”
