PROVOST APPOINTED TO LEAD ACADEMIC PROGRAMS AND LAUNCH WOMEN’S STUDIES AT NORTHERN SEMINARY
Upon the faculty’s unanimous recommendation, the Northern Seminary Board of Trustees announces the appointment of Dr. Lynn Cohick to be Provost, Dean of Academic Affairs, and Professor of New Testament. She begins January 19, 2021.
KENYAN STUDENTS ENGAGE THE WORLD
Imagine a pilot who never went to school flying a machine at 600 miles per hour having over three hundred souls aboard. Northern seminarian and Kenyan reverend Alfred Onyango Angasa uses this aeronautical analogy to drive home the importance of training and higher education.
How they got here: a ten-year, tactical plan. A request from pastors in Kenya’s Kibera Slums launched a multi-year plan known as the Africa Pastoral Training Institute (APTI) in 2012. An innovative partnership between the Kenyan church leaders, Lawndale Community Church (LCC), the Christian Community Development Association (CCDA) and Northern Seminary has awarded certificates of ministry to more than 240 students in Kenya.
Among those APTI graduates are the seven now enrolled in Northern’s CCD degree program. According to Northern Professor of Urban Ministry Dr. Wayne “Coach” Gordon, the Kenyan’s presence in this program benefits the entire CCD cohort, “… the fact that you get to be in a classroom with Kenyans, this is an unbelievable privilege that Americans have being with pastors doing work in Kenya.”
