President’s September Newsletter
Dear Northern Friends,
Our seminary brings pastors, graduate students, and church leaders together across denominational and congregational lines to learn, grow, and spread the gospel. Simply by creating contexts for conversation we reassure pastors and prepare them for the ongoing complex challenges. Just read about some of the incredible work God has done at Northern over this past year.
GREATER CINCINNATI CENTER OPEN HOUSE
In Dayton, Ohio, Tommy Royce (Pictured above) shared his testimony at the Greater Cincinnati Center Open House. He recently began serving as a youth pastor in his community where he was already a Campus Pastor of Troy Christian School. As a result of his studies at Northern, he decided to take yet another step in ministry in a local congregation. Tommy also discovered that his church worshiped less than one mile from the violent shooting in downtown Dayton this summer. His training at Northern has given him the confidence to engage his community as they heal from this summer’s massacre.
FAITH LEADERS SYMPOSIUM
In addition to the classroom, the seminary convenes church leaders and pastors for training, conversation, and encouragement. These pastors lead urban and multiethnic congregations that are engaging their communities. We address some of the most challenging issues facing our society and train persons to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with holistic love and biblical truth. By doing so, we learn from each other, give each other courage, and “spur one another onto love and good deeds.” (Hebrews 10:24-25). Just read about one recent gathering of over 150 pastors and church leaders at Antioch Baptist Church.

Preaching Forum, October 10-11
Acts 17:6-7 says, “These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here,” is a unique and transformative passage of Acts that describes the trajectory and current status of our New Kind of Preacher program for both women and men.
The NKP program has expanded geographically. We are currently in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, Tennessee, North Carolina, Washington, Virginia and three of our larger groups in the Chicago area. The NKP program has grown numerically with groups and Pastoral leaders who are committed to both self and pastoral discovery.
