Dr. John Perkins and Dr. Wayne “Coach” Gordon, co-founders of the Christian Community Development Association, will guide students through an intense week of immersion into the city of Chicago. These practitioners will provide in-class lectures, direct peer-to-peer group discussions, assign book reviews, guide field experiences and daily journaling, facilitate a graduate research laboratory, and prescribe the final course project.
The course is designed to acquaint participants with the socio-cultural dynamics that affect the quality of life, inform theology and challenge the manner in which ministry is conducted in our urban world. This course helps the doctoral student explore contemporary models of urban mission in the extraordinarily diverse context of Chicago. Much of the city will be our lab. There will be visits, observations and interviews throughout the greater-Chicago area.
