Baptist Studies

Are you called to pastoral or church ministry? Do you want an education that is rooted in the Baptist tradition? Would you like to seek ordination as a minister with the American Baptist Churches USA?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you may want to consider pursuing the Baptist Studies emphasis at Northern Seminary.

Northern is an evangelical community rooted in Baptist heritage, and has developed a Baptist Studies emphasis designed to educate about this faith tradition, minister in a Baptist church or pursue ordination in the American Baptist Churches USA.

In the Baptist Studies emphasis, individuals receive ministry training that is:

Biblical: Grounded in Scripture

Combined with a comprehensive academic degree program that provides a solid foundation in the study of Scripture, church history, theology, and ethics, specialized courses challenge students to engage in and reflect on issues specific to the Baptist tradition.

Missional: Sharing Christ in Their Context

Northern Seminary provides students with unique ways to learn how to share Christ in context. Through a variety of experiential learning methods —which could include a weekend retreat specifically designed for students to learn how Baptist roots inform their faith—individuals receive practical, first-hand training that will equip them for contextually-relevant and denominationally-appropriate ministry leadership.

Personal: Holistic, Relational Ministry

Individuals pursuing the Baptist Studies emphasis benefit from Northern’s commitment to personal, holistic ministry training. From the availability of professors to engage in discussion and guide students in discerning their call, to the opportunity to connect with other students on the same path, individuals experience a community that partners with them in their journey toward effective Baptist leadership.

  • Anyone interested in deepening his or her knowledge of the Baptist tradition.
